The Oliver Anthony Vibe
What's missing from the Trump campaign in terms of messaging?
It's so crystal clear that it's frustrating, but Trump (especially with JD Vance as his running mate) needs to tap into the Oliver Anthony vibe.
What does this mean?
1. You don't necessarily have to know a lot about economics, but you should have enough experience on the ground to reflect on how the managerial monstrosity fails the common man (and by design). Are Americans who make an honest living going to get any hint of relief from a dishonest, thieving government?
2. Respect your roots and defend them accordingly. They're being pulled out by those who have debased our culture as surely as anything else, and frankly only possess a vision of ruling with as much power as they can get their hands on. No community life? Much easier to nationalize a dystopian vision. No creativity? That's okay, we've got twerk rap to fill the void. Kamala Harris can run on BS platitudes like "we're not going back." Why, of course. We're not going back to 1965, either. This topic draws passion, and for good reason.
What's actually happening? Trump used to use media hype to his advantage, even if it meant making an outrageous remark. Have they figured him out and ignored him accordingly? Has he had anything interesting to say other than being better looking than Kamala?
Did Trump spend too long in the Truth Social silo to account for how his message needs to resonate with more people, and not just the Catturd MAGA cult?
The Wildest Election Cycle of Our Lifetime
A lot can happen very quickly in an election season. This year, a lot has happened. In fact, 2024 stands out as an extraordinary example.
The cliché may be a tired one: “this is the most important election of our lifetime.”
But the most prominent personalities involved in this cycle are acting as though they actually believe it this time. As are others whose names we've never heard before until the fate of history was put to the test.
Joe Biden was (most likely) thrown out of his bid for re-election after a dismal debate performance against Donald Trump. Mr. Trump himself was nearly assassinated, and took a bullet wound to the ear after turning his head just in time to save his own life. Kamala Harris went from a widely disliked Vice President to a serious contender credited with bringing new life into the Democratic Party.
